There is Dennis the Menace Playground, which was developed by the creator of Dennis the Menace, Hank Ketcham, who lived here for many years. There is also the MY Museum which is a children's museum geared towards ages 2-12 with great hands on activities for kids. The Monterey Aquarium is another great attraction on a number of different levels. They have an area specifically for young children called Splash Zone where kids can lie on a waterbed with fish all around them. You can also rent surreys, which is a four-wheeled kind of bicycle, for the trails. Then there's the Monterey Chocolate Factory, which gives free tours of their kitchen and free samples.
The beaches are also great for kids - they can fly kites and build sand castles. There is also a watching tour at our fishermen's wharf. We also have a lake where you can rent paddle boats or kayaks. Monterey Bay is great for looking at sea otters and sea lions. Elkhorn Slough, which is a bit more sheltered also has lots of wildlife and is available for kayaking and hiking also.
