Childrens Safe Toys

Childrens safe toys: Toddlers will certainly try to put just about anything in their mouths. Learn what kinds of toys make the best toys for them to play with.

For just about any toddler, any item in the house looks like a great toy. From spoons to remote controls, they'll put it in their mouths, beat it like a drum and do anything else they can possibly do to it in order to have a good time.

It's your job to give your child toys that are safe for them. And for toddlers, that's a difficult task. Your toddlers toys should not be very heavy. If you get a heavy toy, it may hurt if it falls on them or if they drop it on themselves. You should also not get any toy for your child that is made of glass or has sharp edges (for obvious reasons). Other tips for toys include making sure the toys aren't made of any toxic substances and making sure they are larger than two inches (so if they're put into a mouth, they can't be swallowed or choked on).

These tips might seem simplistic. But it's very easy for a parent of a toddler to see a toy in a toy store that looks fun for their child, but it may not be as safe as it should be. You need to keep all these factors in mind when shopping.

Once you find these safe toys for your child, you need to be sure to let your child know that she should only be playing with toys that are safe. During play time, make sure you hand your child the recommended toys. And keep all other items away from your child.

Further, if your child starts to play with an item that isn't a toy, such as a pot or pan--or even a television remote control--nicely inform your son or daughter that that item is not a toy and that it should be set down. You may want to then use that moment to tell your child what exactly that item is used for. Turn on your television set with the remote that your child wanted to play with. Show your child how a pot is used. Re-emphasize that the item is not a toy.
