Chinese Acne Medicine

  • Overview

If you have acne, then you are probably willing to do just about anything to get rid of it. Because acne is largely a hormonal issue rather than a simple matter of washing your face regularly, everyone reacts differently to different treatments. While this is good news in that you have many options, it is bad news in that the potential for failure is nearly limitless. If you are unwilling or unable to try more traditional medical treatments for acne, you may wish to consider Chinese acne medicine.
  • History

Chinese acne medicine is also called "fei feng fen ci." The basis for this medicine lies in the ancient Chinese notion that most illnesses are caused by toxins or "ill winds" entering the body and polluting it. To remedy this, you must purify your body and cleanse it of the pollution.
  • Function

Chinese acne medicine uses a combination of herbs and, in some cases, acupuncture. The herbs treat the inflammation from within the body, while the acupuncture helps the body balance itself out. Some pharmaceutical companies have used traditional Chinese herbal combinations to create topical medicines and oral medicines that treat acne, while other types of Chinese acne medicine are more based on tradition and the concept that the preparation of each treatment is as important as the application.
Acupuncture plays a major role in many Chinese acne treatments.

  • Considerations

Chinese acne medication comes in several forms. One of the biggest issues that most people have with ancient or traditional Chinese medicine is that it is "unscientific." Even when it works, most practitioners cannot explain in contemporary scientific language why it works. Instead, the success is explained by simply saying that the different parts of the body and spirit are now in balance. If you are not comfortable with this "imprecise" science, then you may not be a good candidate for Chinese acne medications.
  • Types

Chinese acne medicines come in three main types. Many people consider acupuncture, the use of needles to bring the body back into balance, as a form of acne treatment. Also, the traditional preparation and administration of herbal blends made from "secret" Chinese herbs is a popular way to treat acne. Finally, you can purchase many over-the-counter medicines that use these blends of herbs in conjunction with modern acne treatments such as salicylic acid to try to clear skin.
  • Benefits

Chinese acne medicines are popular with many people who are unwilling or unable to use more modern treatments for their acne. Many modern treatments can cause frightening side effects, such as thoughts of suicide. Chinese acne medicines do not affect the mental state of the patient in this way. In addition, Chinese acne medicines are often far less expensive and permanently solve acne problems.
  • Warning

As with any medicine, alternative or otherwise, you should always consult your physician and your dermatologist before beginning a new acne treatment, including Chinese acne medicine. Some herbal combinations can react poorly with other drugs and cause mental disturbances or exacerbate skin inflammation. You also need to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in the "secret" blend before you begin to take it.
