Choosing The Right Baby Sitter

Advice for choosing the right baby sitter for your child.

Are you having problems with leaving your child with a baby sitter? Perhaps this is your first outing away from the child or you just haven't had baby sitters very often. Sure, most children just want to be with their parents and not left with a baby sitter, but you need some time out

together without the child and he also needs to learn to stay with someone else when you are gone.

So get over your own feelings together on this, erase that guilt about going anywhere without your child, and don't let him know you feel guilty. You don't need to feel that way. If you are leaving your child with someone you totally trust then you should have no guilt and naturally you

would not leave your child with an untrustworthy person.

You either know this person personally or know of someone who has used them as a baby sitter, and you are secure in leaving and trusting your child with them. So convince yourself all will be well and it will be.

Don't sneak out the door when he isn't looking: be straight forward with your child, assure him you will be returning and also a time if you have a time set aside for the return. Give a little quick hug and a nice kiss and go out the door without any anxiety, now you can do this, I

know that you can. The first time you leave your child with a new sitter prepare to be gone just a little while, maybe run to the grocery and pick up a few items, then the next time stay longer so that he can adjust to this new sitter.

Another thought about a new sitter would be to have the sitter come over and just sit down with you and your child so that the child will be famliar with the person you have choosen to be his baby sitter. Then the child won't feel threatened when you tell him you are going to be away from the home and that an unfamilar person will be staying in the home with him.

You might even have some special "baby sitting" toys to keep for those occasions when you leave him with the sitter. Perhaps get out some special coloring books, have him color some pretty pages for your return home, even ask the baby sitter what plans she might have while she is at your home, what particular games she might like to play with your child, what supplies she might need if she plans to do a small project with your child. The more interested your child is in doing things with the baby sitter the more pleasant it will be for the child and the sitter.

Above all just go out and enjoy your time away and be confident that your child will enjoy the time with his baby sitter: this can be accomplished.
