Step 1
Rinse the makeup brush by holding the bristle side under a faucet of warm running water. Rinse the brush until you no longer see makeup coming out of the bristles. This will get most of the makeup out of the brush hairs.
-
Step 2
Make the brush cleaning solution. To make the cleaner add one squirt of conditioning shampoo to a drinking glass and fill the remainder of the glass up with warm water. Bare Escentuals sells a brush-cleaning shampoo called "Well Cared For" for $14. Regular conditioning shampoo works just as well as the Bare Escentuals brush cleaner.

Step 3
Dip the makeup brush, bristle side down, in the soapy water. Swish the brush around inside the cup. The soapy mixture kills bacteria that has built up on the brush.
-
Step 4
Rinse the makeup brush under a faucet of warm running water to remove the soap.
-
Step 5
Squeeze the brush bristles between your fingers to remove excess water. Do not twist when you squeeze. Twisting could pull some of the bristles out of the brush.
-
Step 6
Fluff up the bristles to give the brush a normal shape. Use your fingers to push the bristles back into shape.
-
Step 7
Set the makeup brush down on a paper towel and wait for it to dry. Make sure the brush is fully dry before you put it away.
