Step 1
Shake out the rug to remove loose dust and dirt. Bring the rug outdoors so that the dust and dirt does not get all over the house. Shake out the rug whenever it has accumulated dust and dirt.
-
Step 2
Rake the rug using a garden rake to fluff up the fibers. The fibers flatten over time from being walked on.
-
Step 3
Spot-clean small dirt spots using a rag that is moistened with a mild soap and cold water mixture. For best results, use a mild soap that does not need to be rinsed. The manufacturers of flokati rugs recommend a product called Eucalan Wool Wash.

Step 4
Wash the rug in a washing machine set on the gentle cycle, using cold water and mild soap. If you have a large flokati rug, use an industrial-sized washing machine at a coin-op laundry. If you do not have Eucalan Wool Wash, any mild soap will work fine. Machine-wash the rug whenever it is really dirty and shaking the rug and spot removal are not enough to clean it.

Step 5
Lay out the rug and allow it to air-dry.
