  • Overview

It is no secret that faux wood blinds are sturdier than real wood blinds, not to mention easier to clean. However, they are still not immune to the occasional build-up. Whatever the reason for grungy blinds, cleaning grungy faux wood blinds does not have to steal your entire day. The following tips will help you clean the grime and enjoy your blinds again, without embarrassment. Don't procrastinate any longer, clean that grime and be done with it.
    • Step 1

Dust your blinds first. Even if there is grungy build-up you should dust off dry particles first. This is much kinder to your blinds. Believe it or not, It will also save you some time in the long run. Skip this step and you will end up with more dirt than necessary on your cleaning cloth and will have a harder time getting through to the grime. It is fast, simple and necessaru. Dust now and you'll be on your way to the deeper cleaning in no time.
    • Step 2

Lay the blinds flat in an area conducive to cleaning. A large bathtub is ideal. This way you are less apt to damage one of the cords on your blinds by trying to clean them as they hang. This step will also save you time since you won't have to move so slowly in order to keep from harming your blinds or making an extra mess around your windows or doors.

    • Step 3

Do use a damp cloth. Do not use harsh detergents. Although faux wood blinds are made of hardy PVC material harsh chemicals should never be used. A warm, damp cloth should suffice to remove most of the grunge on your blinds. If, after cleaning well with the damp cloth you notice that your grungy faux wood blinds are still not clean add a couple of drops of mild dish washing soap to your wash cloth. This should loosen any caked on dirt that remains.
    • Step 4

Soak your grungy faux wood blinds only as a last resort. If the blinds have been dirty and neglected for any length of time, you may have to soak your blinds for an hour or so in a tub of warm water. Follow this procedure by referring to Step 3, and then hang in the sun so the blind cords can dry quickly.
