Cleaning Your Venetian Blinds

Steps to cleaning venetian blinds the easy way.

If you were to ask any woman (or man) what their favorite thing to clean is, they might have different answers. But if you were to ask what they hate most in the house to clean, almost all of them would more than likely say that they hate to clean the blinds. The blinds seem to be the hardest thing to clean. They have so many little surfaces that need to be cleaned. You cannot just close the blinds and wipe then down for a thorough cleaning. That is good for a touch-up. You can use a vacuum or a dust rag. But your blinds need to be cleaning thoroughly at least a couple of times a year. This is especially true if you have not kept up with cleaning maintenance. Dust, dirt and grease will start to cake on each little blind and you will not be able to just wipe it off. It will need to be a little more complicated than that.

First, you will need to remove the blinds from the window. You will not be able to clean them properly while they are hanging. Some people try to clean them in the bathtub. But they usually end up getting soaked and frustrated.

The easiest way to clean your blinds can be used on any sort of blind. You can use this way to clean vertical blinds, mini blinds and horizontal blinds. Cloth blinds should not be cleaned this way. They only need to be vacuumed really well. But this is the perfect way to clean your other blinds.

The best way to clean your blinds is to bring them outside and lay them on a large clean towel or blanket. Do not use your favorite things because they will probably get ruined. Open the actual blind all of the way and keep the individual blinds closed. Have a bucket nearby full of soap and water. Usually windex or pine sol works the best. Then clean the blinds by scrubbing them with a soft bristle brush. After the front is finished, reverse the blinds so that the back side is now on the front. Scrub the blinds completely. Then get your hose and rinse the soap off of the blinds. Hang the blinds over something to rinse and then to dry off. If you do not want to take a chance and see spots, then you can hand dry each individual blind.

There are some ways to clean your blinds with a little less effort than was described above. You can purchase a tricket at any cleaning store. A tricket looks like a squeegee with tongs. There is one set with sponges on both sides and one with squeegees on both sides. This way you can do both sides of your blinds at one time.

If this still sounds like too much work, you could always have someone else clean the blinds for you. Most housecleaners will perform this task for a fee. There are also some professional blinds cleaners that could clean your blinds for an even bigger fee. See what works best for you!
