The number one electrical hazard in homes is damaged extension cords. Damaged extension cords cause so many fires in homes. These damaged extension cords can be worn, frayed, or undersized. To correct this, a person should limit the use of extension cords in their home. Also, if you use an extension cord, check to make sure it is the proper size for the load that is being served. The insulation should not be cracked or frayed. The plug connection on each end should be of good integrity. This means it shouldn't be loose, and it shouldn't be pulled loose from the insulation on the cord. The connector becomes loose, and the clamp doesn't really have the insulation around it anymore. So, this is a huge hazard.
