Step 1
Plug an S video cable in to the S video input on your TV.
-
Step 2
Plug the other end of the S video cable into the S video output on your computer's graphics card. Some computer graphics cards require an adapter to hook up an S video cable. A standard S video cable has four pins and a grounding bar. Some common graphics cards require 7 or 9 pin adapters. Many graphics cards include the appropriate S video adapter in the box.

Step 3
Power on the TV and the computer.

Step 4
Alter the display settings for your computer. If you go into your display settings or your video card management center, there should be options for screen sharing or setting up multiple screens. If you've plugged the cords in correctly, the TV should automatically be detected as an additional screen. The two most common viewing modes are clone and dual view; clone makes the TV display whatever is on the computer's screen, while dual view creates an additional screen (to the right of the computer's desktop) that windows can be dragged into. Dual view is ideal for additional workspace or watching video while using the computer for other tasks.

Step 5
Select the mode you like best, and click to accept the new settings. If the settings don't look right when you test them, try something else, or play with other display properties to adjust the screen. Sometimes screen sharing will cut off edges of the display or make the display too small. This can usually be fixed by tweaking the screen settings for the second display device.
