Craft Projects For Kids

Easy craft projects for kids all the way from toddlers to kindergarten, including educaitonal games and writing activity.

TRUE COLORS:

Materials:

Peels of 3 large oranges

4 cups loosely packed yellow onion skins

4 cups loosely packed spinach leaves

4 cups whole blackberries

Plastic containers with lids

1 pair panty hose

Scissors

Rubber bands

Slotted spoon

White vinegar

White T-shirt

Mix 1/2 c vinegar with the orange peels, the onion skins, the spinach leaves and the blackberries separately. This makes a dye. Use the plastic containers with lids for storage. Dip the berries out of the vinegar when the vinegar is a nice purple color. Do the same with the other ingredients. Using the T-shirt as a canvas and the pantyhose as a paintbrush, help the child create his/her own unique T-shirt.

SOCK PUPPETS:

Materials:

Adult size socks in a variety of colors

Fabric glue

Felt

Yarn

Plastic eyes

Ribbons

Flowers

As you put the puppet together, let the child make the decisions of what to put where. Talk with them about the colors and why they chose what they did over something else.

KLEENEX FLOWERS:

Materials:

Red, yellow, green and blue food coloring

5-10 Kleenex

Small rubber bands

Scissors

Fold the Kleenex longways twice. Tie it in the middle with a rubber band. Fold it in half. Cut the fold with scissors. Pick a color of dye and place 2-3 drops in the middle close to the rubber band. Continue, moving outward, until you have reached the outsides. Peel the Kleenex tissue apart. Discuss with the child the changes in color.



COLORED WATER:

Materials:

Food dye

Container of water

Take and put a few drops of dye in the water. Discuss with the child how the dye movesi n the water. Add another color and examine the color change with the child. Explain what is happening, allowing the child to add their own insight.

COLOR MAD LIBS

Materials:

List of colors

Mad libs book

Have the child pick out certain colors and then plug them in. Discuss with the child how it makes sense or it is silly.

WRITING ACTIVITY:

Using the sheet as a guide, have the hcild write about color.

"I like (color) because _______. (Color) is my favorite because ________. I don't like (color) because _________.
