Every credit card issuer wants to know that you can pay as agreed. The thing to remember is that there is a difference in a charge card and a credit card. Anytime, you use credit, you buy goods or services before you pay. American Express is a little bit different than most companies. If you charge $492.68 on American Express, when the bill comes they want $492.68. 100% of the amount is due on the bill. MasterCard, Visa, and Discover require a minimum payment giving you a longer time to pay off the debt. That can cost more over time than you might believe. Using the scenario of $2500 at 19.9%, if you always pay only the minimum required payments, you wouldn't pay it off for 47 years. The type of card you choose is just a decision that you have to make.
