Go to the doctor. She will be able to prescribe you inhalers and other medications to treat your asthma symptoms. You should never to treat severe asthma on your own.

Ask for an allergy test. Asthma can be triggered by various foods, environmental pollutants like dust and pollen and many other allergens. Depending on your allergies, your doctor may want to put you on allergy shots to desensitize you.

Reduce your exposure to allergens. Keep your house clean and do not eat foods you are allergic to.

Buy a HEPA filter for your bedroom, and sleep with it on at night. This can do wonders for your symptoms, particularly if you are allergic to dust, mold or pollen.

Eat a healthy diet, avoiding excessive carbohydrates and fats as well as processed foods and tree nuts. You want to eat vegetables, fruits, grains and lean meats.

Exercise for at least 30 minutes at least three times a week. Your exercises should be vigorous enough to bring up your heart rate.

Try herbal asthma treatments. Lemon juice, honey and many other herbs are supposed to positively affect asthma. Keep in mind that these treatments have not been studied scientifically, so you should be cautious when using them.
