How to Cut Wooden Blinds

By Launie Sorrels

  • Overview

Wooden blinds can help to beautify any home, but sometimes they don't perfectly fit their intended window space. If you need to cut your wooden blinds, here's a simple way to do so without having to pay pricey manufacturer's costs.
    How to Cut Wooden Blinds
    • Step 1

Press the slats together tightly and clamp them with rubber bands. Be careful not to bind the strings on the blinds; this may cause impressions of strings on the slats.
    • Step 2

Use masking tape to bind the ends of the slats so wood chips won't fly everywhere. It will also ensure a cleaner cut.

    • Step 3

Measure the amount that needs to be taken off and mark the slats with a pencil.
    • Step 4

Using a chop saw or miter saw, cut through the tape and slats.
    • Step 5

Remove the remaining tape and hang the blinds in the window. The wooden blinds should now fit perfectly in the window space.
    • Skill: Moderately Easy

    • Tip: Send the blinds back to the manufacturer for a proper fit or take them back to the store they were purchased from to possibly swap for a better fitting set. Cutting your own blinds should be a last resort.
