When it comes to creating your very own patio, you will find there are many different ways. You can choose to create a stone or wood patio in almost any design. Lori Snider, owner of Sundek, a family-owned business since 1984, says the variety of deck and patio designs makes this industry fun.
"Most companies have a variety of colors. People can do logos if they want as well. They can use certain colors to go along with their pool," Snider says.
Get creative and personalize your deck, says Snider. Your deck or patio will be a place where your family gathers for barbeques or where you and a loved one will go out and watch the stars.
"There are no two jobs that can be done alike, because it is so custom-based. We do some that are just classic texture, like irregular walls in certain colors. We have over 21 color choices that are custom-made. Then, if people want other colors on top of that, they can feel free to do that. We do not sell them in a box like you would get at Home Depot. It is pretty much up to what the customer wants in their backyard or the patio to match their house and colors and landscaping," Snider says.
Snider has some of her own ideas on what makes a patio or deck look attractive.
"I would do some classic texture with some brick runners. People really like the stamp and the stain over the concrete and the patios. Some people do that inside as well; but mostly it is for outdoor use, because it is really hard to clean, if it is on the inside," Snider says.
Snider suggest that you get a professional to build your deck or patio, because businesses like hers have seen it all and know what's popular.
However, if you choose to build a patio in a do-it-yourself manner, then it's time to do lots of research. Ask lots of questions when you go to the hardware store for materials. Also, think about time management and how long the project will take you. The fancier the design of the patio, the longer it will probably take to build. How soon do you need it?
Make sure you think about your budget before walking into a store and know how much you want to spend.
