Birmingham has, let's say in the last 10 years, really become sort of a dining destination. It's not the typical southern food like fried food or soul food or barbecue but finer dining. The great thing is that you can go and eat in a nice down-home southern barbecue place for lunch and then enjoy fine dining that night, so you can do both and be within blocks of each other.
Some of the standout restaurants would be Hollands Bar and Grill, and Hot & Hot Fish Club. The chef at the Fish club is Chris Hastings and he has done several cook books and has had a lot of media appearances in Birmingham and southeast area.
