How to Design a Rubber Wristband

By Denise Bertacchi

  • Overview

Rubber wristbands are brightly colored bands with sayings stamped onto them. They are usually sold to support a charitable cause or given out as freebies from advertisers. Anyone can make a rubber wristband for her local charity or organization with the help of online retailers.
How to Design a Rubber Wristband
    • Step 1

Decide what you want printed on your rubber wristbands. Space is limited, so you'll need to capture your message in a brief phrase or word.
    • Step 2

Select how you want the rubber wristband to look. Bands can be made in every color of the rainbow or glow in the dark. They can be screen-printed or have the message embossed into the rubber. Prices will vary, depending on your supplier.

    • Step 3

Decide on artwork. Rubber wristband suppliers will offer stock artwork (often for free) or allow you to provide your own design. This is especially good for company logos.
    • Step 4

Check your pricing. Ask the supplier whether there is a setup fee. Prices per band get cheaper the more you order, so do some calculating to find out how many bands would need to sell to recoup the price of manufacturing them. For instance: if there is a $50 setup fee and the bands cost 15 cents each and you bought 100 bands, you would need to sell 65 of them at $1 before you make a profit.
    • Step 5

Find a reputable dealer. There are many places online to order rubber wristbands (see Resources). Ask around your community to see where other organizations have bought their bands and ask if they had a good experience.
