We have a top 5 list for developing a marketing plan that is universal to any business. No matter how good your product is or how good you are, if you are the only one who knows about it, you are not going to be profitable.
First, determine specific goals and the timeframe in which you want to achieve them. If you have employees, communicate these goals to them as well. Second, decide which tools can best help you meet your goals, and decide how you are going to use them. Tools can include the internet, newsletters, direct mail, special events, trade shows, or traditional advertising. Third, you have to have a budget, and that budget must reflect your goals. Fourth, you need to delegate responsibilities for implementing each segment of the plan. If it's just you, you might want to consider contracting this out to somebody else. If you are able to hire people, put someone on your staff who is a marketing person or salesperson. Lastly, monitor your results and make adjustments as necessary. Marketing has to be a part of your business plan.
