Diaper Cakes: How To Make A Diaper Cake Gift For A Baby Girl

Diaper cakes are easy to make and a functional shower gift. By assembling a few items, you can give a gift that will keep on giving.

Diaper cakes are emerging as the chic accessory for any baby shower. In lieu of or even in addition to the traditional edible cake, diaper cakes are not only aesthetically pleasing but functional for the mother-to-be.Diapers are an expensive necessity for a new family and a gift of a diaper cake is well appreciated by anyone who is expecting.

To begin, buy a pack of diapers.Depending on the size of your cake, you may need more than one pack.By using a little detective work, you may be able to find out what kind of diapers that will be used after the baby is born.If in doubt, you may want to go with a reputable brand since no one likes a diaper leak! There are also diapers now made specifically for little girls. You can buy newborn diapers or diapers that will fit older children so that they can be used in the future. If you are feeling extremely generous or want a larger cake, you might want to buy more than one size.

For ease of transportation, find a large cardboard circle and work upon it.Once you are done with your cake, you can just pick up the circle and carry the cake out.Start by rolling the diaper from bottom to top lengthwise and securing in the middle with a rubber band or a pink ribbon. If you need help, you can use an empty paper towel roll as a guide and simply pull it out of the middle of the diaper once it is secured however, the tighter the diaper is rolled, the sturdier the cake will be.Keep rolling the diapers and arranging them into a circle until you reach the desired tier size. You can turn the diapers so the printed band along the top shows or turn them so just the blank side is showing.Use a long ribbon to secure the diapers in the circular shape. You can also use a long piece of tulle or chiffon. You could also use a length of corrugated cardboard and use a diaper pin to secure it.Be careful not to use pins on the diapers themselves!Repeat this process for each tier.

The fun part is decorating. It is completely up to you how you want to adorn this cake but here are some ideas.

Idea 1:Wrap a baby blanket around the base of the cake and secure with a diaper pin.Once again, be sure not to use pins directly on the diapers.

Idea 2:Stick a baby bottle on the top of the cake as a topper. You may also use a bottle of baby lotion, wash, powder or oil.

Idea 3:Use ribbon to make bows around the edges of the cake or attach items such as a rattle, toys, travel size lotions or powder or Desitin.Infant Tylenol or Motrin is also small enough to attach and useful for a new baby!

Idea 4:Small items can also be stuck between the diapers in each tier.

Diaper cakes are a wonderful way to welcome a new baby into the world and are an easy and fun gift you can make yourself.
