"Eating disorders have been around since the time of the Romans, but as a practitioner who runs a treatment center for eating disorders, I can tell you that the incident has really skyrocketed over the past 10 years," says Sondra Kronberg, a clinical nutrition therapist specializing in eating disorders.
"I don't know whether that's because more people are seeking treatment or because there are a greater number of people with eating disorders. I just think that there is more visibility around it and more availability of treatment, so we are seeing more and more men, women, kids, and even the elderly. We don't have statistics to tell us whether there is a higher number or whether there are just more people seeking treatment. I can tell you, however, that I cannot keep enough people trained to treat the number of people who are seeking help at this point. It's a very specialized field with a very complex treatment."
