Our main species, of exterior wooden doors, are mahogany. We bring in wood from Indonesia. The Pacific Cherry is used mostly has an interior door. As it ages, it's very similar to a domestic cherry. It's a really a very beautiful wood, but it's not common in the States. So, that's you know it's one of our things that sets us apart from the other companies. On the custom side, we will go ahead and build doors out of those woods that we import. We also build in red oak, the north wood maple, and cherry. Most door companies will listen to anything that customer would like to use. You can have a door made out of any type of wood.
Different types of wood require different stains. When you get into a hardwood, like the northwest maple, it's a dense wood. It will react. They won' soak up as much finish as let's say a porous wood, like a mahogany or oak. Oak is very porous. That's going to be common matter where you get it from. Before staining any wood, you need to look at the properties of the wood and the moisture it will absorb. That will help you decide what to do.
