One of the disadvantages of laminate flooring is the life cycle of the laminate floor is typically going to be shorter than the life cycle of a wood floor, depending on how each one is maintained. Typically it becomes an interior design preference. It is fairly inexpensive compared to other floorings to change, but for that type of flooring, there are not really disadvantages to it, depending on where it is made. There are lot of imports coming into the country you want to buy from someone who will stand behind their products just because there are some issues with separation if the glueless locking if the surface is not nailed properly. Some people don't like the sound of walking on a laminate floor. They feel it is more of a hollow sound and typically some of your premium products will have an attached cushion to the back of each plank, which helps deaden the noise. If the product doesn't have a cushion we recommend you put a separate underlinement on the floor prior to installing and that helps keeping the noise down and that's about the only disadvantage of the product.
