Overview
Tamil is the name given to a specific culture of people living in India and applies to their language, food and clothing as well. The DISH Network offers a variety of international programs for its customers, including Tamil programming. These channels broadcast shows and programs from India that deal with the Tamil people and their lifestyle, such as news and entertainment.
Significance
DISH Tamil Network is the name given to a specific lineup of international channels offered by the DISH network program. Users call the 1-800 number listed by the company and purchase one of its packages (see Resources). An installer for the company places the dish and other hardware onto the building and the user can begin watching his favorite Tamil programming in his home. The Tamil programming includes popular shows that were originally broadcast in India and all in the native language.
Types
DISH Network offers two types of Tamil programs for users. The first is K-TV, which is a 24-hour channel that shows a variety of popular entertainment themed shows from India. This channel includes movies, soap operas, countdowns and clips shows. DISH Network also offers SUN-TV, which is the largest Tamil channel in India. In addition to movies and music videos, this station also broadcasts game shows and news programs from its native country, as well as programs for children.
Function
The Tamil stations offered by the DISH Network give anyone in the world access to Tamil shows from India. There are very few stations in the United States that show this type of broadcasting, but with the DISH, everyone has access to those stations provided they subscribe to the service. The user simply needs to inform the company that she'd like to add these stations to her package and pay the extra fee to access those programs.
Considerations
Individuals can request only the Tamil Networks from DISH, without subscribing to any regular form of programming from the company. They'll still need to have the hardware installed, but they'll then have access to the channels. Those who purchase another package at the same time will receive a slight discount on their total monthly payment from the company. The company also runs special discounts throughout the year for new customers to save money by paying for a year's service in advance.
Warning
The DISH Network offers reduced pricing for new customers, which existing customers and past customers aren't privy to. However, this price rises dramatically after the first year. It's also worth noting that customers must sign a minimum 1 year contract when service begins. If they attempt to cancel service before the year is finished, they'll face a serious fine. This applies not only to the Tamil Network, but all of the programs and packages offered by the company.
