Do you find the portions at Friendlies not so amicable? Take matter into your own hands if this is the case. Making homemade ice cream is not as hard as you may think, and may prove to be a very satisfying procedure.

So, how does one make his or her own ice cream? There are several methods for producing your own frozen treats. You can purchase an ice cream maker or you can do it with the use of plastic bags.

Regardless of which method you use you will need to do some shopping. Find a suitable recipe and take a visit to your local shopping center. Here is what you will need if you do not use the ice cream machine. You will need crushed ice, rock salt, zip-lock bags (quart size and sandwich size), milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla. Prepare your area with measuring cups, several small bowls, and of course, some spoons.

First put two cups of crushed ice and ¼ cup of rock salt into the quart-size zip-lock bag. Next, pour the milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla into the smaller zip-lock bag. Seal the bag very tightly. Place the smaller bag in the larger bag. Slowly and gently squeeze out the air and seal the larger bag. Keep squeezing the larger bag gently for about five minutes. Drain the water from the larger bag and roughly two more cups of ice. Take some more rock salt""about ¼ cup and put it in the large bag. Seal and squeeze the bag until the mixture becomes extremely thick. Once the solution is nice and thick you are ready to remove the small bag. Cut one bottom corner off the small bag and squeeze the mixture into a bowl or on a cone for your frozen treat. If you want to try a flavor other than vanilla simply find a recipe and follow the directions. For instance adding cocoa or syrup to this recipe will produce a nice chocolate desert, and a few blueberries with some blueberry juice will give the ice cream a nice fruity flare.

If you choose to use an ice cream machine the process is a little easier and quicker. Once you find a recipe you like all you do is add the ingredients to the ice cream maker and mix until smooth. Here are some recipes below for you to try out with your friends and family.
