How to Donate a Junk Car in St. Louis

By Andrew Smith

  • Overview

Donating a junk car in the St. Louis area is just like donating any otused car. Several different charities will accept a vehicle donation so long as the car has an engine and four tires. When you donate your junk car in St. Louis, you could help to fund social services programs for families who can't afford them, programs for lung transplant patients and assistance for neglected and abused animals.
    • Step 1

Find the keys and title to the junk car. You will need to give both of these to the charitable or non-profit organization in order to donate your junk car.
    • Step 2

Call St. Louis Kars 4 Kids. Kars 4 Kids will tow your junk car for free and then sell the car at auction. Proceeds from the sale will go to J.O.Y. For Our Youth, an organization that offers food, shelter, education, clothing, after school and summer programs and other services to needy or "at-risk" kids throughout St. Louis. To learn more, call (314) 571-4170.

    • Step 3

Contact the Catholic Charities of St. Louis. There are over 8 agencies that make up Catholic Charities of St. Louis. These agencies provide education for expectant mother, job training, health care for the elderly, counseling for abused and neglected children and many other programs and services. Catholic Charities will pick your car up and process all of the necessary paperwork for you and do so for free. To donate your junk car to Catholic Charities of St. Louis, call (877) 575-4483
    • Step 4

Give your junk car to Second Wind of St. Louis. Second Wind offers assistance for individuals who have either received or will receive a lung transplant as well as people dealing with pulmonary illnesses. Second Wind will pick your junk car up within 2-3 business days and you will receive a receipt for tax purposes when your car is picked up. For more information, call (877) 537-5277.
    • Step 5

Donate your junk car to the Humane Society of Missouri. The Humane Society offers treatment for sick and injured animals, rescues animals who have been abandoned or abused and finds homes for orphaned and abandoned pets. The Humane Society of St. Louis will work with a local towing company to pick up your car at your convenience. Call (314) 951-1519 for more information.
