A downhill mountain bike is a variation of a full suspension mountain bike and it's one of the specialty types. A downhill mountain bike or downhill full suspension mountain bike is something that you probably won't be looking for unless you really have been involved in the sport for a while. It's designed to have more travel than a standard bike. They are heavier built with heavier wheels, heavier built frames, heavier built components so that they can withstand higher speeds and more extreme riding. I would say a standard mountain bike ride would be something a little more casual. You may see a down hill mountain bike more on something like that Nissan Xterra commercial where they are launching off a five foot rock cliff. Down hill bikes are used for a very specific purpose and that's riding down the most extreme terrain.
