Drinking Games

Beer drinking games that will liven up any Friday or Saturday night at home with friends.

"Quarters" is probably the all time classic beer-drinking game that mixes intoxication with coordination.A quarter, a shot glass, and a group of people are all that are needed for this game. The object is to hold a quarter between your forefinger and thumb, bounce it flat upon a table, and sink it into a shot glass. If a player sinks the quarter into the shot glass, the player gives a drink to any player of his choice. If the player fails, play passes to the person to the left.If a player manages to make three quarters into the shot glass in a row, this player makes a rule. Some favorites are:

-Can't say drink, drank, or drunk

-No first names

-Thumb rule, which allows the player who called it to place his or her thumb on the table at any time, and last player to follow must drink

-No pointing fingers

-All communication must be in the form of a question

-No elbows on the table

-No cussing

These rules can be adapted to many other drinking games.Use your creativity and create your own.

"Chandeliers" is a variation of Quarters and involves each player having their own shallow glass such as a juice glass and one taller glass in the middle. The tallest glass is placed in the center of the table. Each individual's smaller glass is placed around the tallest glass and is filled with beer.Everyone donates a bit of beer to the center glass. Each player attempts to bounce a quarter into an opponent's glass. If a quarter lands in your glass, you must drink the entire amount of beer and refill for the next turn.If the quarter lands in the center glass, everyone must drink the beer in their glass and return the empty cup to the table. The last player to do this is the lucky one who gets to consume the beer in the center of the chandelier.Players can play with rules after three successful quarter dunks.

Playing cards are another instrument that can be used to accelerate everyone's buzz factor."Up and Down the River" is a relatively simple beer-drinking game that involves dealing out at least six cards face up to each player playing the game.If there are a large number of people, a double deck can be used. The dealer deals the first card going "up the river."Any player dealt that card, must drink one drink. If more than one card of the same number is held by a player, the drinks are doubled. The dealer's second card going "up the river" governs that any player holding that card must drink two.The third card is drink three and the fourth card signals players with a matching card to drink four. The suit of the cards doesn't matter in this game-only the numbers. The dealer reverses the dealing process after the fourth card and places the next card on top of the fourth card.He or she is now going "down the river."Anyone who holds a matching card in this spot is allowed to give away a drink to any player of his or her choice. If more than one card of the same number is held by a player, the drinks to give away are doubled. The drinks may be given away in any combination. The next card going in order over the cards already played by the dealer is drink two and so on.The game continues until the dealer has dealt all of the cards.

"Red or Black" is a very simple beer-drinking game that is appropriate if players have already reached a fair level of intoxication. The dealer simply flips each card after each player has had the opportunity to guess whether the card is red in color or black in color. The dealer can mix things up by calling a wild card and allowing players to make rules if three colors in a row are guessed correctly.
