How to Dry a Tempur-Pedic Mattress

By Randall Shatto

  • Overview

A Tempur-Pedic mattress is a foam-based material that conforms to your body shape. In addition, your partner is undisturbed when you move around or get out of bed. If your mattress becomes moist by spillage or other means, drying it may be problematic. However, with a little help and a heating source, the Tempur-Pedic mattress can be completely dry within three to four hours.
    • Step 1

Use the towel to blot the spill. Lay the large towel flat on the Tempur-Pedic mattress. Use the ball of your hand to blot-dry the bed. Start at the top and work your way down, covering every piece of the towel. Firmly press the towel into the mattress. Repeat this step at least once. Use another towel if necessary.
    • Step 2

Contact a friend to assist you in moving the mattress. Lay the Tempur-Pedic mattress against the wall, as flat as possible. The bottom of the bed may need to be away from the wall so it sits upright.

    • Step 3

Use a space heater. Since a space heater is movable, you have more flexibility. However, you can use your heater vents for this step as well. The mattress should be at least 15 feet from the heating source. Point the heater directly at the spillage or wet spot on the bed.
    • Step 4

Take the two oscillating fans and place them in front of the heating source. The fans should be approximately 3 or 4 feet in front of the heat. Turn on the oscillate feature. This will allow the heat to evenly flow to the Tempur-Pedic mattress.
    • Skill: Moderately Challenging
    • Ingredients:
    • Large bath towel
    • House heating vent or space heater
    • 2 oscillating fans
    • Tip: Check the mattress every 30 minutes for heat. If the bed feels hot, move the heat back at least 3 feet. If it does not feel warm, move the heating source closer to the bed. When you use a heating vent, the mattress will need to be closer to the vent. Prop it up against a dresser or other furniture.
    • Tip: Repeat Steps 1 through 4 on the opposite side when the moisture seeps through the entire bed.
    • Warning:
    • Watch the heat closely. If the mattress is near the heating source, it could catch fire. Check frequently on the status of the bed. If it is dry, turn off the heat immediately.
