Is It Easy For A Beginner To Learn How To Quilt?

Is it easy for a beginner to learn how to quilt? It's kind of difficult to teach yourself. There are a lot of books out there and even TV shows that show you how to quilt, but it's kind of like repairing a car.

It's kind of difficult to teach yourself. There are a lot of books out there and even TV shows that show you how to quilt, but it's kind of like repairing a car. You really need to do it live with some guidance. My suggestion is always to contact your local quilt shops. The majority of local quilt shops have beginning quilt classes and I always think that's the best way to learn how to do quilting because if you make a mistake or if you have questions there is somebody there. So I always recommend it's best to learn quilting in a classroom setting.

Q. For a beginner is it easier to hand quilt or machine quilt?

Hand quilting would actually be a little easier even though it's a lot more time consuming, but it forces you to learn more about quilting. As people get more advanced they might use the sewing machine. The sewing machines today are almost like computers. You can program them and you can design on them, you can do a whole lot of things. The old time sewing machines basically had a foot pedal and you had to keep pushing that up and down to make the needle go up and down. The modern sewing machine has software, CD/ROM, and they are a lot more intricate. Most people should start out learning the basics of hand quilting before they move into machines.
