Overview
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchi, which usually stems from a viral infection. This means that the larger air passage ways swell up and produce more mucous, making it harder for a person to breath and causing a lot of coughing. Bronchitis can sometimes lead to pneumonia, but because it comes from a viral infection, generally it is temporary and treating the symptoms is all you can do.
How to End Symptoms of Bronchitis
-
Step 1
Take Ibuprofen, Tylenol, or your pain reliever of choice to help with the muscle aches. -
Step 2
Drink plenty of water. A fever tends to dehydrate the body and the additional fluids will help to thin out the mucous. -
Step 3
Utilize a humidifier or a cool mist vaporizer to help the bronchial irritation. -
Step 4
Take something for the cough. Benylin, Pertussin, Trocal, and Vicks 44 are effective cough suppressants. If you prefer a more natural approach, try hot water and honey and ginger to soothe your throat.
