Every year we have a Pop Fest in the plaza that encompasses the First Christian Church. The Indianapolis Symphony plays as well as a couple of local high school jazz bands. It usually takes place on a Friday in June. It's a great way to expose young kids to classical and jazz music.

We have an annual hospice concert to raise money for hospice fees. It's held in a beautiful amphitheater at Mill Race Park. This year, the acts that came in were Peter Nann and a band called Liverpool. The concert is free. The hospice makes money on sponsorships and the sale of beverages. This year we had around 20,000 in attendance. It is a very nice event.

We have an annual Scottish festival in September that drew about 5,000 people last year. They have an authentic Scottish meal, heavy athletics like caber taunting and sheep dog herding. There are actors who teach you about battlefield etiquette and how to yell at your enemy. There are highland dancers and story tellers as well. It's a lot of fun. Of course there are also Scottish bagpipers and other types of entertainment.

We have an Ethnic Expo to celebrate the diversity of the community. We have companies that draw in people from different cultures, so that has made Columbus a more diverse community than others our size. The Ethnic Expo is a way to learn about other cultures through entertainment and food. It takes place in October every year.

There is a lot for children to do here, actually. First Fridays for families has a lot geared towards children like storytellers and plays. For instance, we had a performance based on Charlotte's Webb that was a lot of fun. There are puppeteers that came in as well. They have Neighbor Fest as well where they block off some of the downtown and they will bring in entertainment and you can bring your families and bring lounge chairs and sit down and listen to the music or go get refreshments. There is an indoor playground downtown which was one of the first indoor playgrounds in the United States. It is great particularly when the weather is not cooperating. Art In The Park occurs in June and has a fun set of activities for kids.
