The most popular event is the Edison Festival of Lights that happens every February for three weeks honoring Thomas Edison. It is a whole series of events with art fairs, bands, and a nighttime parade. We also have a fun Shrimp Festival in February or March during a full moon, because the shrimp's fleet is in port. You never fish for shrimp during a full moon, because they can see the net. We also have a Mango Festival in July. You just can't imagine what all can be done with a mango. A very different event is the Sanibel Shell Fair that has been going on for close to 70 years every March. People bring artworks made entirely out of shells. One year somebody made up a whole state fair, including all the animals, circus performers, and audience, out of seashells.
