I have never treated someone, personally, with addictions but I do have a Reiki acquaintance who went to school for the addiction counseling and worked with addiction treatment and counseling center and used Reiki there. They do use it for patients with substance abuse addictions. They reported that it worked. The reason that Reiki works is because substance abuse affects parts of your physical body and your brain functions. Reiki is able to heal all of you at once. Let's say that your hair has started falling out and your nose is bleeding and not to mention the chemical effects that drugs have on your brain. Reiki can heal all of that at once. It helps with apparent physical problems and the things that go on inside your brain. Because it is a mental thing a lot of the reason that people become addicted to substances in the first place is because they are under a lot of stress. They have a lot of stress or a lot of problems with managing life and emotional problems. Reiki can heal all of these things. It can work together to heal everything that was wrong, even the things that sent the addict to the substance abuse in the first place. It also can heal the physical things that have resulted from the substance abuse. It can heal the root of the problem and the problems that that problem has caused.
