People began to have more time to relax in the Elizabethan period and the artisans and craftsmen started fashioning chairs and furnishings with classical proportions. In other words, they were tall and symmetrical which was representative of their architectural elements. The craftsmen also began acquiring new skills. They developed new tools that could fashion very ornate embellishments. You also started seeing high backed chairs to suit the taller high back collars of the wardrobes and the hairstyles. Instead of the previous wartime atmosphere, people finally had time to sit back and think and when you sit and think you think grandiose and big. They also had the idea to start allowing more light into their buildings and therefore the glass industry began manufacturing smaller pieces of glass which led to the fashionable design of small pieces of glass held together by lead.
