When someone suffers a loss, if they believe they suffer a loss, they need to file a claim. They will need to call an 800 number for their insurance company or their agent, explain what has happened and the agent or the people at the 800 number will enter a claim on the policy.

From that point, an insurance adjuster will get involved. The insurance adjuster is the person who handles your claim. They investigate it and they are ultimately the people that you settle the claim with. That is what the insurance adjuster does. It is their job to investigate and make a decision in the claim process.

Once you have discussed your claim with an adjuster and it has been decided, generally the claim is settled. If there is a check to be cut, they will see that you get the funds that you need to get the work done, depending on what kind of program or company you are working with. Many companies have programs that will give you the option of using a company-approved repair service that will come in and handle the work front to back, which basically streamlines the process and keeps the homeowners from having to go out and find somebody to actually complete the work. Or they can handle it that way; they can find somebody to do the work. The adjusters dole out the money and the claim is handled.

If you choose to go with your insurance company's approved repair company, what that means for the homeowner is that if you have any trouble with the work, it is lifetime guaranteed. Or at least with us it is. With other companies, I cannot speak for them, but you would think that would be one of the selling points for getting people to use that program.
