When you're sick, the last thing you feel like doing is cooking. You may not even feel like eating. Breakfast in bed is a great way to let your friend or family member know that you're thinking of them. Here are three simple breakfast in bed suggestions to consider the next time you want to give a unique get well soon gift.

A Transportable Healthy Breakfast. Your best friend's an avid cross-country bicyclist who's always on the go. But yesterday she took a nasty spill on some rocks and has been told to take it easy for a few days. You want to take her a breakfast tray, but she lives on the other side of town. Why not consider a gift of a small insulated lunch bag? She can use it later and you can use it now. Pack it with a container of plain yogurt and a small ziploc bag of granola. Wash fresh blueberries and place them in a pint-sized tupperware or disposable gladware container. Pack a chilled can of orange or grapefruit juice in the bag as well. The only utensil that this breakfast needs is a spoon, so wrap it in a pretty napkin with a bit of ribbon and place it in the bag or attach it to the outside. With the insulated lunch bag, the breakfast will stay cold all the way across town. The tupperware container of blueberries becomes the perfect bowl for the mixed yogurt, granola, and fruit. Everything does double duty. And your bicyclist friend will have a gift to use later when she's back on the trail.

A Simply Tempting Breakfast. Your next-door neighbor is the most thoughtful person you know, always ready to help you move furniture or keep an eye on your cat. But a recent illness has made her feel like not eating anything. Why not take her a basket of healthy goodies to tempt her appetite? Muffins are easy to make, and plain ones such as bran or wheat are easy to eat when you don't feel like eating. Purchase a small basket and line it with a cloth napkin. Pack your muffins (in paper linings) inside the basket. Add a pretty jar of jam and a couple oranges. If you have room, consider adding a mug stuffed with different varieties of tea packets to the basket. Current studies show that green and white teas are healthy for you. And mint teas can help settle an unhappy stomach. With such a smorgasbord presented to her, your neighbor will surely be inclined to sit up and have some breakfast.

A Decadent At-Home Breakfast. Your husband the amateur skiier broke his leg on the black diamond slopes, is confined to his bed, and is very grumpy about it. Why not pamper him a little with his favorite treats? Cinnamon rolls are a universal favorite. Since you're busy doing the household chores of two people, consider buying the quick cinnamon rolls that come in cans. While they're baking, wash the strawberries you purchased and brew a pot of coffee. Place the strawberries and the hot cinnamon rolls on your nice dishes on a tray. For the coffee, use a cup and saucer if you have one. This will also catch any liquid that might spill as you carry the tray upstairs. Your husband may be too grumpy to appreciate the nice dishes. But the treat of gooey cinnamon rolls should soon cheer him up. You might also consider the addition of a new humor book to brighten his stay in bed; perhaps a compilation from a columnist or a cartoonist he likes. Coffee plus sugar plus funny pictures should soon brighten the patient's mood.
