Even before the Thanksgiving dishes have been cleared and washed, you will start receiving lots of mail. Sure, most of it will be bills and junk mail, but many of those letters will be Christmas cards from family members and friends. Christmas cards are a way to let you know that you and your family are in somebody else’s thoughts during the holiday season, and they serve as a simple way to connect friends and family. When our family starts to receive these beautiful cards, they form a migration pattern across our house. We open them at our kitchen counter where we stand them up by the telephone. Then, when we start receiving more and more, they begin to be found all over our home wherever there is an empty space and inevitably get toppled over by the family cats.. If this haphazard display sounds like your family’s then try some of these following ways to creatively display your Christmas cards.

With all of the Christmas shopping you will be doing, more than likely you will have some extra ribbon laying around from all of your wrapping. Get some of your best looking and thickest ribbon and cut out a few strips about three or four feet long. Lay the strips of ribbon flat and vertical on a table. Pull out all of your Christmas cards and center them on the strips of ribbon about two inches apart from each other. You can design or group them any way you would like. Once you have figured out a pleasing design, hot glue the back of the card to the ribbon and you now have a ribbon of cards. If you have enough room at the bottom of the ribbon, you can hang a little bell or a bow for an extra dramatic effect. These ribbons of cards can be hung in any area of your house, where you want to add a little touch of Christmas spirit. Some great ideas are over the mantle, in an art alcove or in the kitchen (perhaps on the refrigerator).

Ever price those faux pine garlands at crafts stores? They can cost a fortune. Create your own version of a decorative garland with your Christmas cards. On the top left corner of your cards, punch a small hole. Interweave some natural garland or green or red ribbon through the holes on the Christmas cards and hang in your front entrance, in a doorway or over the mantle. If you have lots of Christmas cards, you can create several card garlands of various sizes.

While it is nice to stand up Christmas cards on the mantle or on a table, they can be easily knocked over by small gusts of wind , small little kid hands or small furry paws. Put a bit of a gummy adhesive or tape on the back of your card and line them up around your front entrance or around and over your mantle. Not only will the effect look neat and orderly, they will not fall down or be knocked over. Anytime you look at your mantle or walk out your front door, they will serve as a constant reminder of the holiday season and the love of family and friends.
