Decorations for Christmas wouldn’t be complete without at least one tree. Whether real or artificial, large or small, a Christmas tree represents your family’s likes and styles. Trees can be decorated elegantly, simply, with memories, handmade ornaments or even to grab a laugh or two from the holiday visitors. Since Christmas is made for the young and young-at-heart, try a small Simpsons themed Christmas tree in an entryway, corner or bedroom.

The satirical cartoon, The Simpsons, has given society some favorite characters and saying over the years; all of which can add to your tree décor. Stick to the basic, bright colors of yellow, red, green and blue to highlight the cartoon’s background. Strings of lights in multi-colors do well. Remember to adjust the size of the bulb to the size of your tree.

Get the family involved with the decorating by talking about their favorite Simpson memories. Add a few store bought character ornaments to cement the theme of the tree; include your very favorite if a budget is set or the entire cast if possible. Use each character’s special quirks and set of problems to assist with the remaining décor.

Try some of these ornament and trimming ideas – homemade or purchased:

Homer Simpson loves beer, bowling, donuts and getting himself, with good intentions, into trouble. Add a few donut ornaments with sprinkles to the tree or simply keep a box of a dozen close by. Tuck empty beer cans deep into the tree’s branches or clip out local bowling coupons and string them together as a tree chain.

The loving, patient housewife, Marge, can be represented by a rolling pin, measuring spoons or other kitchen gadgets hung on the tree. Anything blue to match her hair will do or add a plate of cookies, Christmas tree shaped just like Marge makes, to the table. Don’t forget to make a few of those cookies into bloody spear tips.

Lisa’s talents lie in school, so alphabet letters, books, sheet music or miniature saxophone ornaments would be ideal.

Bart’s boyhood pleasures include skateboarding, sling shooting, comic book reading and tormenting the neighborhood. Finger skateboards are perfect to add as a tree trimmer, a homemade sling shot can be tucked in the branches and a comic book or two, cut up and strung together would make a great tree chain.

What else would do for Maggie but a pacifier or a dozen hanging from the tree. Dip in glue and glitter to add that special sparkle against the lights.

Create cartoon bubbles from white construction paper; adding some the favorite sayings, string together and hang on the tree. Try, “Don’t have a cow, man!” “Duhh” “Excelsior!” “Haw, Haw” just to name a few.

Remember the other characters and their special sayings or needs and think of ways to represent them on your tree. Chances are you have the decorations close at hand.

And don’t forget the cat and dog; Santa’s Little Helper and Snowball – a bone and/or toy mouse will include the pets.

Whichever way you select to represent the extended Simpson family on your holiday tree, always exercise safety when decorating. Keep in mind the age of those that will be viewing or decorating the tree and keep pets away. Christmas trees are mountains to be climbed by kittens and ornaments are just fancy toys.
