Create your own spa basket for that special young or young-at-heart girl on your gift list. These easy to follow and little-supervision-needed instructions will help you get started. Chances are you already have most of the ingredients needed.
Start by selecting a basket to present all the homemade spa products. Fill the basket with shredding paper, crumpled cellophane or a pretty towel or two. Then fill in with any or all of these products in fancy jars or simply tie ribbon around each jar for that extra special touch.
Fruit/Chocolate Lip Gloss
Material Needed:
Petroleum Jelly
Powdered Cocoa Mix or Juice Mix
Plastic Spoon
Small Container
Instructions:
Put desired amount of petroleum jelly into a small microwave safe bowl. Place in the microwave for 30 seconds; take it out and stir. Continue microwaving and stirring until all the petroleum jelly is melted. Add the desired amount of cocoa powder or fruit juice mix, a teaspoon at as time (experiment!) and stir. Microwave for 30 more seconds and stir. Set it aside to cool.
Once it is cool enough to handle, spoon it into a small container (recycle old makeup containers or 35mm film containers, or craft stores sell a large variety). Set it aside until the petroleum jelly gets firm, and then it is ready to use!
Body Glitter
Materials Needed:
Aloe Vera Gel
Glitter
Food Coloring (Optional)
Plastic Spoon
Small Container
Instructions:
Fill your container about 3/4 full with the aloe vera gel. If you are using food coloring, mix a few drops at a time in with your gel until you get the desired color. Stir in a sprinkling of glitter at a time to avoid clumps. Add as much or as little glitter as you like.
You can try larger glitter and even small shapes such as stars; or, for a more shimmering look, use fine glitter.
Bath Salts
Materials:
Bottle or Jar
Epsom Sales
Food Coloring
Perfume or Essential Oil
Wooden Spoon
Instructions:
Combine the desired amount of Epsom salts (enough to fit in your bottle or jar) with food coloring. Mix well so color is even. Add the perfume or essential oil in the scent you like and mix again. Spread the mixture out on a sheet of wax paper to dry for a couple of hours and then put it in the bottle or jar.
While the salts can be used right away, the perfume or essential oil will blend better with the salt if it is allowed to set in the jar for a few weeks.
Bubble Bath
Materials:
1 Cup of baby shampoo
1/3 cup glycerin
1 Tbls of water
Fancy bottle or jar
Essential Oil (Optional)
Instructions:
Gently mix together the shampoo, glycerin, and water; too much agitation will cause the shampoo to lather. If desired, add 10 - 25 drops of essential oil you like and, again, gently mix. Pour mixture into a bottle or jar that can close tightly.
Add these homemade spa products to your basket, tuck in a homemade card and watch the smiles appear.
