Looking for a cute idea for your little girl’s birthday. Why not host a “Doll” themed party?
Begin by sending out paper doll invites. These can easily be purchased or made from paper cutouts. You can also cut out pictures of dolls from toy catalogs and paste onto blank cards for quick and easy to make doll invitations. Remember to include basic information such as time, place, rsvp date, etc., and highlight a note requesting all attendees to bring along their favorite doll.
Next, plan out the party using the doll theme. Purchase doll printed paper goods. If you can’t find doll paper products, substitute with solid pastel colored plates and accessorize by making paper placemats from poster board. Simply glue on paper cutout dolls and matching accessories. If you want, you might consider personalizing placemats with the names of guests.
For favor ideas, purchase inexpensive doll stickers or cutout booklets. Or buy inexpensive vinyl and/or cloth dolls to give out. These can usually be found in dollar stores. Wrap favors in pretty pastel tissue paper and tie with a bow for a great favor surprise sure to delight every little girl who attends the party!
Continue the doll theme with a “doll cake” You can make your own. There are several popular dolls today such as Strawberry Shortcake, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Raggedy Ann, etc. Any craft shop will most likely have cake molds available. For a quick cake decoration alternative, simply bake a boxed cake mix and purchase small vinyl dolls such as Kelly from Barbie and friends, and use as cake toppers. Or order a specialty doll theme cake from your local baker. Be sure to order in advance for availability.
Games can also reflect the doll theme. You can play such variations of popular favorites like “Dolly Says….” Pick a girl to be the dolly and play just as you would play “Simon Says…” Other games to play … Dolly Bingo, Pin the bow on the doll, a dolly scavenger hunt where guests look for doll accessories, the wonder doll goes round and round (variation of the wonder ball), or Guess which doll is different. Line dolls up – remove something from a doll such as a shoe; have quests decide which doll has been altered.
Other fun ideas to include for your doll party:
· Use play tea sets and set up special tables for dolls to have their own party. You can even use play food to make the party more imaginative!
· Have girls bring their own clothes and accessories for dolls. Allow guests to free play with dolls – dress up dolls, take dolls for walks with dolly strollers, etc.
· Make doll crafts such as designing a birthday hat or crown for a favorite doll.
· Another whimsical doll craft is to create matching jewelry for each girl and her doll. Purchase inexpensive beads and have girls string up necklaces and bracelets for themselves and their dolls.
Finally, be sure to take a photo of each girl with her doll. As a thank you, send the photo as a memento of this special dolly theme party!
