Often, teens will complain about all the chores they have to do around the house. At times that may become annoying to disgruntled parents. Some teens argue that they aren’t suited fro the chores they are given. Sometimes this may be true. Some chores may be too simple for a teenager to be doing. This concern can lead to your teen’s embarrassment if a friend stops by or a discussion ensues about household work. Below are four chores that you can assign your teen that may be agreeable to both parent and child. There are other jobs you may prefer to give them, but these seem to be the tasks of choice for many households.

The most popular chore that you may wish to assign is to clean their room. This is easily the most obvious job that a teen should be able to manage. However, some parents do not want to insist on teens cleaning their living space, viewing this as private territory. Consequently, the kids’ rooms become messy or even dirty. Assigning a chore like this is not so much embarrassing because teens sleep in their rooms and cleaning it will help them to sleep better.

The second chore that a teen should be able to take on is vacuuming the rugs. This job particularly takes the load off the parents, since it involves physical labor in moving the equipment from room to room or up and down stairs. In addition, teens cannot get away with not doing it because people are always walking on the carpets, and visible dirt is sure to be noticed. It will become clear immediately if your teen did not do a good job. It also isn’t that tough of a job and does not require a significant amount of time to accomplish, leaving plenty of time for social activities or homework.

Another job that you may give to your teen is to dust the furniture. This is easier than it sounds. Unless you have a mansion, it will not take a tremendous amount of time to complete the wiping of tabletops or other pieces. It involves no special skills to move around with the duster and remove settled debris. Cleaning the living space in this way also will have the house feeling and smelling better. This is another obvious chore that parents can check on because the results are clear for anyone to see.

A final task that teens can handle quickly and easily is to straighten miscellaneous items. It is truly amazing how much stuff can get out of place in a home. By the end of the week, everything is everywhere, especially when you have company. Have your teen pick up newspapers and magazines, throw dirty socks in the laundry, and load the dishwasher with stray glasses or forks. Like the other chores, this one can be observed by passing parents.

As you give these jobs to your teenagers, they do more than just tidy the house. Household work builds character and pride for completing a job successfully and making living space look clean. It isn’t wrong to reward the kids for a hard day’s work, either. Just remember that you are an example. If you do good work cleaning the house, then your teen will do the same.
