Valentine’s Day: the day for couples to plan intimate dinners and romantic nights. Or the day for singles to get together and either rejoice in their carefree lives or speak harshly about past loves. If you plan on throwing a Valentine’s Day bash for friends, tread lightly through your guest list. You do not want to make the mistake of inviting all couples and only one single friend or you will never hear the end of it. You can choose to make the party all couples, all singles or a combination of the two. Be open to couples arriving late to the party or leaving early, since many may want to have a private romantic date earlier or later in the evening. Here are some invitation wording samples and templates that may help you when writing out your own Valentine’s Day party invites.

It is up to you whether or not you want or need to include an RSVP on the invitation. Hosts usually ask that a guest RSVPs when they need to get a headcount for purposes of food and drink, so if this is your situation, feel free to include one. Also, even though you have included the address for the location of the party, it is good manners to include a map or textual directions. These can be printed on the back of the invitation or included as a separate enclosure. If, like in the example above, you want to limit the guests to all girls, be specific.

You may choose to indicate whether food and drinks will be provided at the party. This will help guests determine if they should eat dinner before attending the party. You do not have to provide a full-scale dinner, but you should always have a few finger foods or snacks out for guests to munch on. Also, if you will be serving alcohol, you can indicate that on the invitation, as well. If you are only providing setups (liquids like carbonated beverages and juices to mix with the alcohol), indicate that by writing “setups provided.”
