Making baby-themed streamers for a baby shower can be very easy and fun. They don’t have to be expensive, either. By using some inexpensive items, it is simple to have decorations that will look great and have the mom-to-be very glad that she chose you to host her shower.

Purchase some pastel crepe paper streamers in baby-inspired colors (pink, blue, yellow, mint, lavender, etc.), some baby stickers or baby wrapping papers with designs you can cut out, some white construction paper, cotton balls, curling ribbon also in pastel colors, glue, tape and if you can afford it, small, light baby items such as booties, pacifiers, teething toys, rattles, etc.

Unroll the crepe paper streamers and place either the stickers or the wrapping papers designs about every two feet. Use glue to affix the designs if you are using those instead of stickers. Don’t worry about only having them on one side of the crepe paper.

Now, take one end of the first streamer and affix it with tape to the middle of the ceiling in the room you are going to decorate. You can do more than one room, of course. Gently twist the crepe paper over as you loop it from the middle of the ceiling to one of the four walls. Secure it to the wall at least two feet down from the ceiling. Now, with the crepe paper twisted, the designs or stickers you placed on them can be seen from all sides. Do this with other streamers. You can do just four, to each corner of the room, or to make it more festive, loop shorter streamers to the middle of the four walls.

Using the white construction paper, cut out a cloud for each corner about 16 inches in diameter and a larger one for the middle of the ceiling, about 24 inches in diameter. These don’t have to be exact. Clouds are very abstract in shape and size; so don’t feel like they have to be perfect. Just try for puffy, happy clouds. Next, take the cotton balls and glue them all over the clouds to give them a three dimensional appearance.

Placing tape on the back of the smaller clouds, affix them over the ends of the streamers in each corner and on the middle of the walls if you are using that many. Now, the untidy ends of the streamers are covered up with cute, fluffy clouds.

For the largest cloud, curl pieces of curling ribbon by running the open blade of a pair of scissors along the length. Use different lengths and colors. Be sure not to have the ribbons hang down so far that people will be running into them! To some of the ribbons tie the small baby items you purchased. Glue or staple the other ends of the ribbons in between the cotton balls. The cotton balls will hide these ends. You can tape this one to the ceiling if you think it will hold, but remember it will be heavier than the other clouds. Some white thumbtacks places discreetly along the edges may be better, or use some heavy-duty tape. Now, the ribbons hang down with the cute baby items, which can be given to the expectant mom at the party’s end.

If you would like to adorn a doorway, place several cotton ball studded clouds in a slight semi-circle across the top and sides of the doorway. Before placing the two on the edges, affix several pieces of leftover crepe paper streamer hanging down to the floor on either side of the door. Cover up the ends with the last two clouds.

Now you have delightful decorations and streamers that will work for either sex of baby. The effect is one of lightness, color and softness, perfect for the arrival of a bundle of joy from heaven. It is cute and can be done easily without a lot of effort and expense for the hostess.
