The best recipes you possibly make for toddlers are ones thewy can help with. When the toddler gets to help, it makes it more fun for them and also makes them want to eat it because they made it themselves. Any recipe where mixing is required is great because mixing is an important job that a toddler can do.
Here is a particularly easy to make snack that kids will love and is good for them too. It's called Peanut Butter Caterpillars. First you will need 1 sliced banana, 2 tablespoons peanut butter and grapes. Next spread the peanut butter on the banana slices. Have your child push the slices together then with a little more peanut butter have your child stick the grapes to the front of the banana train for the head. For added fun you can add small carrot or celery sticks for antennas.
Quick and easy recipes are best when preparing them for a toddler. If the child has a lengthy wait they will quickly lose interest which makes it harder for you to get them to eat. Another quick and easy recipe to make is Mini Jelly Rolls. Remove crusts from a slice of bread. white bread works well since it rolls easy and contrasts nicely withe jelly making for a bright and colorful snack. Spread jam or jelly (jam is easier to spread) on the slice of bread then roll. Fasten with a toothpick. If you want to get creative, use a thin carrot or celery stick instead of a toothpick.
This next recipe has two ways to make it and each way has a different name. It's called either Fish in a River, or Ants on a Log. For the Fish in the River version, you fill celery sticks with cream cheese then place goldfish crackers in the cream cheese so they are like "swimming" in the river. For the Ants on a Log recipe you fill the celery sticks with peanut butter and place raisins in the peanut butter for the ants.
Crispy Peanut Butter cookies are a kids favorite. You will need a 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup honey, a 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or cinnamon, and 2-3 cups Rice Krispies or Kix. First you stir the peanut butter, honey and vanilla or cinnamon together in a large bowl. Then add the cereal and have your child mix it together. Next with wet hands, form the mixture into ping-pong sized balls. Place the balls on waxed paper or a greased cookie sheet and chill for at least 15 minutes.
Crunchy Apple snacks are a healthy treat that will also satisfy your toddlers sweet tooth. You will need 1 crisp apple, 3 tablespoons orange juice, 1/4 cup crunchy peanut butter and 2 tablespoons honey. First cut the apple into 1/4 inch thick slices. Dip each slice into orange juice coating each side. This keeps the apple from turning brown. Shake off excess juice. Next mix peanut butter and honey together in a small bowl. Spread half the apple slices with the peanut butter and honey mixture. Then top each of those with a second apple slice. Wrap each apple "sandwich" in plastic wrap and keep chilled until ready to eat.
If your in a real jam always remember peanut butter makes a great dip for things like apple slices, celery and carrot sticks. You can butter toast, cut it into "fingers" and serve it with dips like honey or cinnamon and sugar. For a quick on the go snack dry cereal like Cheerios and Kix are great. Throw in some raisins or dried fruits for a variety.
