Your wedding anniversary is coming up and you are frantically looking around for the perfect fifth year anniversary gift. This is no ordinary wedding anniversary either. People don’t make a big deal about the third year anniversary or even the fourth year anniversary, but the fifth year anniversary is considered to be a milestone. Pair that stress with the fact that you and your spouse have vowed to follow the traditional wedding anniversary gift schema and, thus, this gift has to do something with wood. Fear no more. Here is a list of potential wood-related items that will be sure to put a smile on your spouse’s face.

* Do you and your spouse have a favorite picture of you as a couple? Maybe it was the first picture taken of you two as a married couple or maybe it is a picture of you both on your first date. Take this picture to a printing company and have it enlarged. For a classic effect, ask if the picture can be converted to pure black and white or sepia tones. Once the picture is finished, have it professionally matted and framed and present this to your spouse. You can even have a plaque posted and engraved on the frame itself so you can add your own special words.

* Perhaps your spouse is musically inclined and plays a woodwind instrument like the clarinet or saxophone? Or maybe your spouse played the cello or violin in college and always talked about picking it back up. Invest in an instrument for your spouse, and if your budget allows, enroll them in some music classes to inspire them to play again.

* Plant a tree for your spouse in your back yard or on a piece of property you both own and plan to move to. If your spouse loves fruit trees, plant a fruit tree or, if he/she grew up with magnolia trees, plant one of those. Get a plaque and engrave it with the date and a special message from you to your spouse, so that you can place it by the tree.

* Love to go hiking or just love the idea of being out in nature? Book a romantic weekend for you and your spouse at a bed and breakfast located in or near a wooded area, or, better yet, book a vacation in a log cabin where you can spend your days hiking and relaxing under the stars.

* Does your spouse love art? Commission a local sculptor to make a wooden sculpture for your spouse (or for less money, put out fliers at the local university or community college for college artists who might do this as a side project for you).

* Have you been promising your wife that you would one day give her a dream kitchen? Why not redo the cabinets in the kitchen to the style she has been dreaming of?

* There are many pieces of wooden furniture, both rustic and modern that your spouse might love. Perhaps your spouse has mentioned they would like a new coffee table. Go out and see if you can find one that would suit his/her style as well as match your current furniture.
