For the past half century, you and your spouse have led a beautiful life together, loving each other, supporting each other and taking care of one another. You have stuck by each other through thick and thin, rich and poor and healthy and sick and have emerged as role models for couples just starting out on their own journey. Show your spouse you love them more than ever and thank them for the past fifty years with a traditional wedding anniversary gift of gold. You can choose a gift that is gold or gold-inspired, so here is a list of some ideas to help inspire you.

* What golden gift would be more appropriate than jewelry? Every single possible piece of jewelry can be made with classic and beautiful gold. Remember, if your spouse is not particularly fond of gold, you can always choose a white gold version (that looks silver) of most jewelry pieces. Necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings and cuff links are all pieces of jewelry that can be easily found and bought in gold.

* Blow up one of your favorite wedding portraits or a favorite couple photo and have it professionally matted and framed in a gold frame. Hang the portrait up in a favorite spot in your home and surprise your spouse.

* If your spouse loves artwork, commission a local artist (if budget is a concern, put up fliers at a local community college or university to find an art student willing to take on this project) to paint an oil or watercolor portrait of a favorite photo of you and your spouse. Have the portrait professionally matted and placed in a rustic golden frame.

* Maybe your spouse loves to listen to music or maybe he/she played an instrument back in the day. Get your spouse a new gold musical instrument (like a saxophone or trumpet) or take your spouse out on a night on the town to listen to some great jazz ensembles.

* If you have some time to prepare, invest in a golden acid- and lignin-free scrapbook and fill it with memories (both photographs and journal entries) of the last fifty years. Include photographs from your wedding and past anniversaries as well as written well-wishes from friends and relatives.

* If your spouse loves to read and collect literature, find a first edition book of one of their favorite novels that has gilded pages. Or if your spouse loves to write, get him/her a journal that has gilded pages.

* Love to travel? Plan a vacation with your spouse to an exotic location. Find a golden coin from that country, wrap it up and present it to your spouse as a fun way of letting them know you will be traveling to that country very soon.

* Nowadays, you can find almost every single decorative piece for the home in gold. Invest in a gold mirror, lamp, candle, table, candle holder or sconce for the house.

* Get your friends and family together and throw a surprise golden oldies anniversary party for your spouse. Decorate with a golden theme putting up gold balloons, laying out gold table cloths and using gold dishes and cups.
