Fashion Tips: Buying Men's Clothing Online

Suggestions on where to find clothing for men online, including tips on sizing and purchasing.

If you're a guy, you've probably been disappointed more than once with the shirt your wife, girlfriend or mother has purchased for you in the past. And, it's a fact that most men don't like to shop for themselves or anyone else, but the internet has changed that fact for many men. Sitting in the comfort of their own home, not fighting the crowds or hunting parking spaces, seems to have encouraged many men to shop more for themselves. The problem is, upon receiving the merchandise ordered from the internet, some customers are disappointed with quality, fit or color.

Shopping online requires the buyer to be extremely aware and cautious. It's somewhat like choosing what's behind door number one, door number two, or door number three. They all look nice, but when you open it, a major surprise could await you.

You can see small pictures online of shirts you're interested in, but even after enlarging the picture and looking at the shirt from various angles, it's still difficult to tell exactly what you have. And it's impossible to tell what it'll look like on you. Some sites have a feature where you can put in your own measurements, then try on the clothes, virtually. This gives you a little better idea of what the shirt will look like, but doesn't usually allow for factors like lightness or darkness of skin and hairstyles or types, which all figure in to how an outfit will look on the wearer.

Utilizing all of your options, such as viewing the pictures, using the virtual dressing room, checking out styles and colors, knowing your measurements, and visiting the big and tall stores, if necessary, will make the risk of disappointment upon receiving the merchandise less chancy. Most reputable stores offer a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied with the garment or if it simply doesn't fit. When possible, have the merchandise delivered to a nearby branch of the store. This way, you can try it on in their dressing room and if it doesn't fit, you're right where you need to be to send it back and receive a refund.

One man's brand new shirt, which is way too long for him, could be just perfect for you. Check out online auctions for great deals on men's clothing, but be cautious and ask questions about the merchandise. Try to select brand names that you know and trust, or at least avoid ones that you don't. Check for things like how much the shipping will be, what the guarantee is on the garment, and whether it's being advertised as new or used. Send an email to ask the seller other questions, such as the exact length of the pants, the shoulder-to-shoulder measurement of a jacket, or the arm length of a shirt. If you see a deal that seems too good to be true, look it over again. There's probably a reason others haven't pushed the bid higher. Possibly the seller only takes credit cards, or checks, or maybe the merchandise is used, but read carefully about the item you're considering and check to see that this seller hasn't had complaints about any previously sold merchandise before making a final decision.
