Fertility Signs

Getting pregnant can be easy or difficult depending on how closely you watch your body. Consider these fertility signs to increase your chances.

We are cautioned as we grow into adult years, to be wary of getting pregnant when we may not want to. Few people end up considering they may be someone with fertility troubles. And the only way to find out is to try and have a baby.

The first step in watching your fertility signs is to track your monthly menstrual cycles to determine whether or not your cycles are regular. An average 28-day cycle will yield an ovulation day half way through the month. So on day 14, it is likely you will be ovulating and able to get pregnant. If your cycles are longer than 28 days, just subtract 14 days off the total length of your cycle to determine when you ovulate. So if your cycles are 38 days long, subtract 14 and you are likely to be ovulating around day 24 of your cycle.Cycles are calculated starting with the first day of your last period.

One way to determine if you are ovulating or are near, is to watch your cervical mucus. At times other than near ovulation, your mucus will be thin and watery. The best way to check it is with toilet tissue that you swab your external vaginal area with. Once ovulation is near, then the mucus becomes thick and stringy. If you were to try and stretch it between your fingers it would go for at least one inch between two fingers. This quality of the mucus helps trap sperm when they are trying to reach your uterus in search of an egg.

Since sperm can live up to seven days, having sexual intercourse within that time frame of ovulation will increase your chances of becoming pregnant. Once you notice the thicker mucus, if you make love, there is a good chance that one of the millions of sperm might make it to one or two of your eggs.

Sometimes women find they can tell by their sex drive if they are near ovulation. Similar to animals, when we ovulate we have more desire for sex. This increase in sexual motivation is what ensures humans will continuing existing just like any other animal.

Some books will tell you that timing intercourse around ovulation will result in a specific gender you are wanting. But if having a baby is your main priority, never mind those studies and just concentrate on watching your body's signals and it will tell you when to get pregnant.
