List of traditional festivals held in West Virginia. All over the state, cities and towns have major celebrations throughout the year that are wonderful for the whole family.
Throughout the year and all over the state, West Virginians take part in traditional celebrations. These festivals are fun for the whole family and are often an excellent learning experience, teaching heritage and history to the people attending them. These festivals are filled with activities and entertainment. In many of the West Virginia Festivals you will see arts and crafts, antiques, automobile shows, quilt shows, live entertainment, animals, and great food. Often these celebrations end with a decorated parade or an outstanding fireworks show. Listed below are some Festivals and the months they will be celebrated in.
The Sweetheart Festival is scheduled for February 2006 and will be held in Braxton County. A complete list of activities is available.
For April 2005, the Spring Mountain Festival is scheduled. This will be held in Grant county. Shows, activities, food, and games will be available throughout the festival to families.
There are several festivals scheduled for May 2005. The Blackberry Blossom Festival will be held in Logan county. There is also the Comcast Mountain Festival, which will be in Mercer county, and the Elizabethtown Festival, which will be held in Marshall county. Upsher county will host the West Virginia Strawberry Festival in May 2005. Also in May 2005 is the West Virginia Three Rivers Festival held in Marion County.
The June 2005 festival schedule contains four festivals. The Calhoun County Wood Festival will be held in June and located in Calhoun county. The Hometown Mountain Heritage Festival will be held in Fayette county. The Weston Carp festival is also held in June and will be in Lewis county. Logan county will be holding the West Virginia Freedom Festival.
Three festivals are scheduled for July 2005. The Bridgeport Benedum Festival will be held Harrison county. The Charleston Ribfest Festival is held in Kanawha county. The Cowen Historical Railroad Festival is also held in July in Webster County.
The Appalachian Festival will be held in August 2005 in Raleigh county. Also in August, will be the Braxton County Festival located in Braxton county. In Nicholas county, the Cherry River Festival is scheduled for August 2005. Logan county will also be having their Logan County Festival in August.
Five festivals are scheduled for September 2005. The Beckley Kid's Classic Festival will be held in Raleigh county. The Clay County Golden Delicious Festival, in Clay county, will also be held in September 2005. Nicholas county will have their Craigsville Fall Festival and Greenbrier county will have their Fall Fling and Teddy Bear Festival in September 2005. Lastly, for September, is the Lincoln County Fall Festival, located in Lincoln county.
The Middle Island Harvest Festival is scheduled for October 2005 and will be located in Tyler county. Also scheduled for October is the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival, located in Berkeley county.
These festivals are just some of the many celebrations that take place in West Virginia throughout the year. One of the more popular celebrations is the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta. Just ask any West Virginian if they have heard the catch phrase "You gotta Regatta". I am sure the answer will be yes. The regatta is a four day celebration that takes place in late August or early September. It is in Charleston, West Virginia's capital city, and contains many events. Evening concerts finish off each day of events and a fireworks show ends the four day event.
