The fire evacuation plan is a plan that you have before the fire happens. We call it "EEDOTH (pronounced like Edith): Early Exit Drills Out of The House." Every family should have a fire escape plan. It is very important that they know how to get out of a room. If their room is upstairs, then they should know that they have to try and use a sheet or something to hang out of the window to let somebody know that they are in that particular room. You want to make sure that you teach your child if they happen to be in the house and there is smoke in the house, that they should keep that door closed and put wet towels under the door, to keep that smoke from coming in. You want to practice these things before a fire actually happens. It is very important because unfortunately we have children who are still dying in house fires. Sometimes the parents take the batteries out of the smoke detectors and once they do this, they won't get an early warning. Then you have a situation where a child may be in a room and the house is filling with smoke and they open that door and smoke just billows in on them and they get confused. So it is very important that you have an exit plan before a fire happens, rather than trying to prepare after it happens.
